Does KU Offer BCom in the First Place?

Oooh yes.

The Bachelor of Commerce program at Kenyatta University is a four-year course that prepares students for lucrative business careers in both the public and private sectors of the economy.

It is offered as an undergraduate course in the School of Business at KU.

It has been designed to instill problem-solving attitudes, business ethics and inculcate entrepreneurial and self-reliance attitudes and habits in students.

This is to enable them to be active participants in the creation of new wealth.

Now that we have seen what BCom entails, what are some of the requirements before one is accepted into the course?

Entry/Admission Requirements and Cluster Points

  • A student must have satisfied the Public University entrance requirement of at least grade C+ at the KCSE level. At least C plain in both Mathematics and English.
  • Diploma in a related field from Kenyatta University or any other recognized university OR CPA/CPS Part II or equivalent with at least a Mean grade of C (plain) at KCSE and C (plain) in Mathematics and English.
  • Mean Grade of C- at KCSE and progressed from certificate to Diploma at KU or any other recognized/accredited Institutions.

For those students joining through KUCCPS, the following are the Cut Off points required for BCom in the recent years:

  • 2020 – 33.679
  • 2019 – 35.353
  • 2018 – 33.550
  • 2017 – 34.506
  • 2016 – 36.793

Program Structure and Course Outline

At the end of four years, a Bachelor of Commerce student is expected to have taken and passed 49 units to qualify for graduation.

The units in the First and Second years are common to all the students. However, in the Third Year of study, students move to their respective units of specialization.

A student is allowed to choose units from any of the following departments at the School of Business:

  1. Accounting and Finance
  2. Business Administration
  3.  Management Sciences
  4. Human Resource Management
